I would Blog more but I'm getting Married

It's the truth.  You all know it.  I am getting down to the wire only 20 days left!  Craziness.  This past weekend was my Bridal shower that I might post some pictures of.  This coming weekend I am going to NYC to spend with my Bestie and one of my Newly appointed Bridesmaids. The following weekend I am going to the Lake house with Andy and a few friends to enjoy the quiet before the storm that is the wedding and ride some Roller Coasters at Cedar Point!

Until then I have nice long list of things I need to accomplish.  One of those things not on the list is my Wedding Dress.  I finally found the time and gusto to sit down and finish her up.  Here is a quick snap shot from my new fangled Droid X-2 phone (which has a story which I will tell at the end).

The things I still make to do include:
  • My Bouquet
  • The Bouquet I am going to toss
  • Four bow ties for the band
  • Hair pieces for the Bridesmaids
  • Corsages for the Grandma's
  • Bouquets for the Bridesmaids
  • My Reception Dress
  • The Groom's Party Boutenierre's
  • Ring Pillow
  • Jelly Fish decorations for Reception
I'm not in such a tight spot now that my College Preview Classes are over.  I'll miss the kiddies I was teaching but it does feel great to have some free time and a more normal work schedule again.  This picture was from my last day of class with them.  I'm rocking my TA's Ray Ban's and my new Toki Doki Captain America Hat.  My friend Laura from Rivet Gallery went to San Diego Comic Con and picked it up for me.

Now the story of my Phone.  My Bestie, and my friend Tony all have the same exact phone.  Numerous times we have picked up each other's phones.  When I visit Hyemi in Chicago we would pick up each others phones.  Once I couldn't find my phone staying with her so she called it.  She had put my phone in her purse while she was carrying around her own phone in her hand.   Anyways Saturday was my Bridal Shower and all three of us were there.  I kept picking up the wrong phone and wondering why my code wasn't working.  Found out I kept picking up Tony's phone whilst mine was in my pocket.  After much confusion with phones the next day when Hyemi was taking her flight back I was less concerned with mine.  Then she left and I went home to make sure my phone was charged for when she was going to call me at her connecting flight.  No luck.  Turned the house upside down and searched every newly acquired box and bag from the shower to still no avail.  Finally I gave up and consigned myself to the thought that "Hyemi must of taken it by mistake".  Unable to go Phoneless even for a day this close to the wedding I headed to Verizon.  Luckily I was up for a phone upgrade anyways.  Unlucky my older brother was supposed to pay off some charges are part of the deal for him to get on my phone plan with an Iphone.  Of course he didn't pay.  What should been merely a $200 bone deal to my preciously dwindling bank account is now a $450 punch in the gut and kick in the shin of my wallet.  Yes I did get a beautiful Droid X-2, but I was hoping to upgrade after the wedding ~sigh~
It get's better. About an hour after I have been home with this new dazzling phone and empty sadness of bank account, Andy (the boy whom I am marrying) e.mails me. "Guess what babe!  I found your phone in the pocket of my cargo pants I am wearing".  I might of wept a bit while muttering to myself FML over and over again.  You would think oh no biggie let's just return it but alas..... there is a $70 re-stocking fee so it wouldn't matter anyways.  Such is my life, whenever I have a chunk of change saved up and put away I get thrown some sort of calamity that is necessary to take care of ASAP.

Before the Road

Sorry I've been a bit MIA over the past week.  I truly wasn't here.  I was amidst great friends in Chicago prepping for my Best Friends Wedding that happened this past Sunday.  I had the privilege of being the Maid of Honor, or as I like to call it Bitch of Honor.  I love my best friend a lot.  I ran back and forth in the city, parking cars, running errands and keeping her cool. It was also pouring rain was I was doing these tasks.  I drove in from Columbus, Ohio Wednesday night.  We met to run some errands and do dinner then I drove off to a friends apartment in Wrigleyville where I stayed till the rehearsal on Saturday.  Before I left this was the outfit that I was wearing.  Something a little casual and fun.

Drapey Navy Cardigan from Anthropologie
Tokidoki VS Marvel Spiderman Shirt
Navy American Apparel knit mini skirt
Harajuku lovers Yellow Jelly Wedges from DSW

Close up of my lovely shoes.  If you look for these get them in a size larger then your normally wear.  They are a bit narrow at the front and run all around a little small.  Since they are rubber they will not stretch with your feet.  I got these as a present to myself for my past birthday since DSW was so kind of give me a little discount.

I have a few more posts to make from my Chicago Trip.  Sorry these is nothing on sewing at the moment.  Currently my studio space is a wreck.  It is situated in the basement where we have a non-functional Air Conditioner that is being replaced tomorrow.  In preparation for that all the shelving and storage normally surrounding the HVAC and A/C was displaced to my area.  I'd be lucky to find my scissors in that mess.  On top of the missing AC we found our one and only bathroom to be severely clogged and turns out we need to get our main-stack water line replaced completely.  Now the final kicker I caught a cold of course while running around in the rain.  I am a tad miserable and going to work on some hand sewing projects till after the Midwest Craft Caucus.

If everything goes without a hitch in the house tomorrow for repairs we will be hosting Grace Dobush writer of Crafty SuperStar during the Craft Caucus.  I'm very excited about this!

TiLT

WOW this week kind of went by fast.  It has been a struggle for me to make and think of new and exciting content.  Having a blog is sometimes like homework, you feel the need to do something everyday to give your readers something but at the same time certain posts can be a drag.  I like to try and keep up and make it a mental exercise in writing and being thoughtful on my life and projects.  I'm so happy today is a Thursday.  I have so many things to be thankful for that I am loving and want to share!

1. Being a part of an awesome group, The Columbus Crafty Cotillion.  Not only do they sponsor and hold amazing events throughout the year we are personal.  As a group we support each other in the good and most importantly the bad and dark times in business, craft and life. Being a part of this wonderful circle of ladies (and a few gents) is like having this super awesome dysfunctional family that get's along and get's things done.  During my tribulations this week on a fashion business level these people were supportive and on the forefront helping me to get that resolution and legal advice.  I truly feel lucky to be a member of such a elite force here in Columbus.  You can get to know the group more here!

2. Speaking of events that people in the Crafty Cotillion are participating in I am so excited for the Midwest Craft Caucus!  It is going to be a wonderful first time event in Columbus where we are having professionals from all over present to our audience here in the Midwest about setting up your business, etsy, legal issues, applying to craft shows, etc etc.  It will be full of information and fun!  The events after the daily lectures will include things like the craft show death match, make and take booths as well as a myriad of other local events going on that weekend.  I am beyond excited for this event!

3. Final Adoption.  We did it, we officially adopted our foster kitten Rambo.  We went in and did the paper work over at Cat Welfare. My heart skipped a beat when Andy mentioned that maybe she was on a waiting list or something for people to adopt (total lie he was just freaking me out).  Afterwards we bought her a new collar for all her tags and some new toys to celebrate the happy day!  Above is the hat we force all new kitties to wear.  Below you can see her with her official forever family.

4. Spring colored makeup.  This tease of warm weather here and there has gotten me excited about spring but with the weather the way it is I feel the only way to project my love for colors is going to have to be in my eyes for now.  Makeup used is Lime Crime magic dust shadows, Toki Doki liquid eyeliner from Sephora

5. Fresh made Takoyaki.  Seriously nothing beats fresh made foods especially the delicious Asian varieties.  Today was the soft opening for Foodie Cart at the Mickey's Late Night Slice Short North location.  You can actually see the Miss at work through the window tirelessly turning and checking on the little round morsels.  This was the main reason my TiLT was so late to post today.  I wanted to make sure I could hit them up and really make today fantastic!

OTD 1.10.2011 - Greys and Neon Orange

Look at me!  In a matter of days My photos have already improved vastly!  I'm so happy because nothing is more embarassing then really terrible photo attempts on a blog.  People read blogs they want to see pretty new and interesting not blurry tired and tried to hard.

There are several awesome things in this photo which is why I had to pust this first.
1. My new Victorian Chaise from Mary Catherine's
2. My furry woodland cat Sir Benjamin Franklin
3. These poloroid type Prints from Clinton Reno (another Local Artist)

Now onto the outfit
Grey turtle neck Dress from American Apparel
Neon Orange Tunic Sweater from Urban Oufitters Sale
Neon Orange Tights- Express Sale
Grey Suede Fringe boots from Steve Madden (years ago)
Snide Smirk - my own creation

People sometimes find my hair fascinating, I like to find it out of my way.  When it is wet I simply put in a dolop of mouse and twist up the end, bump it forward a little bit and then clip it with a tiny claw

This is very minimal makeup.  Just some brow gel for shape, and liquid liner for a little cat eye swoop.
Lately I've been using the TokiDoki liquid Liner from Sephora

MEOW!

CIMG4000, originally uploaded by tornangel012.

Oh man....... this has been tough to try and blog everyday. I'm not sure I can get that accomplished but I am still trying. I have another 2 weeks to get into the full swing of this. I've been good about taking the daily photos just not about posting them. This little gem of a photo is of my cat Kilala. For those who don't know her she has quite the personality. She was whining for treats when I took this picture.

Following are some photos from my college Preview Class.

This last one is of my Teaching assistant and Intern Teresa trying on a dress we bought to deconstruct.

Finally this picture is from my outfit from two days ago.

Armani Exchange Army green button down shirt and sleeve buckle detail

Striped Harem pants made by me

Toki Doki "I love LA" watch

Zigi Soho Watch

Octopus and Bat necklace made by me with fresh water pearls

Tomorrow I promise some test shoots from the Cincinnati photo shoot and today's Outfit plus whatever I end up wearing tomorrow.

Orientation

CIMG3893, originally uploaded by tornangel012.

Today I was at CCAD attending the first orientation meeting for College Preview that I am teaching the elective for fashion fundamentals.

I am wearing my navy and white striped dress with oversized collar made by me
Bright Green Waist belt from BeBe on sale for $19.99
Michael Kors gold slide sandals with all wooden base and platform.
Toki Doki I LOVE LA watch (with some close up pictures)
Silver hoops from Express
Silver rose ring from "higher ground" at Comfest.

Sitting through that orientation was so fun. As boring and dumb as the information was it felt good because I was being a part of something big. I would be a mentor to some of these kids for the next month. It really took me back to my freshman year of SAIC. The dorm life all the friends and mishaps, classes, assignments. It was all so wonderful. The bad and the good it made it life and made a good 4 years of my life. I learned so much there and had so many great teachers. I hope that I can be a good example and inspire these kids to do something great at least help them to acheive their own goals be in the portfolio or even just realizing that perhaps fashion or even art school may not even be the right place for them.

As for the Photoshoots coming up........ I'm feeling pretty good I think that I will have enough pieces and I can relax a little bit. seeing that I am going to pull some old pieces just because I feel like I have been pushed too much to just accept their guidelines so this is my punch back. They are just going to have to accept whatever I send to them. With all that in mind I am starting a new sweater, maybe it will get done maybe it won't but it's not that important to me either way. I will get what I need to get done now and worry about the fashion show after the photo shoot. My main concern is the leather jacket I want for the shoot. Everything else seems to be on the back burner.

10 year Class Reunion

I know this is totally out of order and but you are getting 3 posts for the past three days today.
Here is the one from yesterday!

It was my 10 year High School Reunion. Upper Arlington Class of 1999. I feel a little old but mostly content. It was a long time since high School and I am a completely different person then I was back then. I saw a lot of people that I knew but not many that I actually wanted to talk to. I would look at people to recognize them then quickly turn away because I didn't want to make eye contact and for them to talk to me. Maybe it was rude but it was just kinda weirding me out. I did get to talk to an old friend of mine that I have truly missed and reconnected. I heard a lot of people saying my name and would catch them pointing and whispering about me. Andy said it freaked people out to see him and I holding hands or smooching a little here and there. I thought that was all really weird since we have been together over 5.5 years and it's no secret that we are together. I think it was just annoying that no one actually came up to talk to me but just whispered. That just took me back to High School all over again.

Onto the outfit!

I am wearing a navy striped shirt dress designed and made by me
Black corset belt from Target
Copper Crocheted cuff with freshwater pearls made by me
Crystal drop earrings made by me
Navy blue She of London Ballet Flats.
Toki doki "I love LA" Bullet watch

My earrings if you noticed are uneven and with different sets of crystals falling down. That is sort of my signature thing is doing earrings that match but aren't exactly the same. I feel it is more playful that way. Also gives people with multiple piercings the option to wear a single earring and have something else to match on the opposite side. I was really happy with how well the shirt dress came out so I am going to be sure to make it in several styles for the fashion show. I'm always very happy when I get a good steady pattern to use as stock for others.

Day One!

Off to a little bit of a rocky start as I am still trying to figure out the best way to take my photos. I think I have found just the place using a tripod in this empty corner. This was taken with the help of a mirror in the kitchen that is actually too tall for me.

Today I was only wearing jewelry that I had made and stretch jeans that I altered.

I am wearing Michael Kors Gold tone wooden platform slides from Filene's basement over 6 years ago.
- Cheap Monday high waisted stretch jeans bought at Urban Outfitters for $5 and altered in the waist by 4"
- Black Cami from Guess outlet
- Grey open mesh sweater with tab sleeves from H&M in Santa Monica
- Je táime enamel plate necklace made by me
- Adina small diamond square necklace from my boyfriend on valentines day 2 years ago.
- Toki Doki "

Things I am currently working on is my dress to wear to my 10 year high school reunion this friday. I have nearly finished my purse to take also. I will probably get that done tomorrow and maybe the dress.

I am meeting on Monday with the owner of this one boutique that I am in LOVE with called Collier West. They are mostly home goods but every time I walk into there I feel at home because it is exactly how I would want to decorate the house if I had boundless amounts of money. But I finally got the guts to go over and ask if they were interested in seeing my jewelry.

Before I went there today since they had a "back in five" sign I stopped into Substance. Very cute store that I also like their clothes but find it almost too plain and simple for me. They always have shoes that I am keen on and big leather purses. Today they had a lot of things that I liked but with this "Clothes Diet" as I refer it to other people I couldn't buy a thing. Except for these super comfy and cute navy ballerina slippers that she had been trying to sell because they don't fit anyone. It says size 6 but actually it was a size 5 PERFECT for me! And since Shoes are something I can't make it's ok! Anyways we got to talking and she sounded interested in buying so I just need to get my self together once again to present and work on my pricing. I think I will only present a couple things to start. I'm not entirely sure if that is the spot for me plus they might refuse my price point.

Also on my list of places to visit I stopped by Undone to discuss the Trunk Show in August a little more and was informed that there is a sidewalk sale that they invited me to be a part of. Wonderful! Today was a great day lot's of connections and possible opportunities.
